Abstract: The article examines how students in a highly self-regulated learning environment select learning materials when given the opportunity to decide autonomously. Using the example of the University School Dresden (Universitätsschule Dresden), the study explores the roles of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, social influences, and the design of learning materials. A qualitative study, based on guided interviews with students, analyzes the factors influencing their decisions, including interest, prior knowledge, success prospects, and external conditions such as school structure.
